Have you heard of the Irish Midlands? That’s where you’ll find @wineport_lodge located on the banks of one of Lough Ree’s three inner lakes.

31 years ago husband and wife team Ray Byrne and Jane English opened a small restaurant there. At first this was part of a sailing centre, but it soon established its own reputation. And as time passed, bedrooms and a spa were added.

This week, I had the pleasure of staying overnight aboard their luxury cruiser, M.V. Full Circle.

After being greeted at reception with a welcoming glass of bubbles, we settled into our new home for the night. And sleeping up to 6 people, there was ample space above and below deck.

You have the best of both worlds being just a stone’s throw from the lodge and its amenities, but also being in your own little serene space afloat.

(By the way, the boat doesn’t move during your stay. So there’s no need to be concerned about taking on skipper responsibilities!)

This is where I’ll be next week! And I can’t wait. I’m off to the Emerald Isle for a few days and I’m hoping the rain pauses for a little while… 🙂

If like me you have issues with your ears when flying (I’ve got narrow ear canals), I highly recommend a visit to The Ear Clinic, which you can find in Wimbledon, Horsley and Grayshott. I went to the Wimbledon clinic yesterday.

I won’t go into detail (DM me if you’d like to know more), but I have their microsuction treatment before flying. And I now wouldn’t fly without it.

A wonderful new place to eat in Esher, Surrey - @starlingbistro with Michelin Star Chef and BBC British Menu Winner Nick Beardshaw - @beardymanchef!

We visited for the first time today and will definitely be back. I opted for the Starling Set Lunch, which at £25 for 3 courses is such great value. I chose:

Starter: Leek and Potato Soup, Rarebit Crumpet

Main: Fried Violet Artichoke, Celeriac, Apple, Girolles, Artichoke Gravy

Dessert: Madagascan Vanilla Crème Brûlée

My husband chose from the main menu:

Starter: Herb Crumbled Cod Cheek, Warm Tartare Sauce

Main: Ribeye Steak, Triple Cooked Chips, House Salad

We loved the general relaxed vibe of the place, the attentive staff, the not overpowering background music, the stylish interior design and of course, the incredibly delicious food!

It’s so lovely to have somewhere new to eat out locally. And I wish Nick and his team well with this great new addition to the Surrey restaurant scene.
