My personal recommendations for what to do, see and eat in 2024, whilst spending 48 hours in Lisbon, Portugal.

The first place we headed to in Kinsale on the southern coast of Ireland, in County Cork … @kokokinsale, where father and daughter team, Frank and Emily Keane, make chocolates by hand.

Whilst browsing their colourful shop, we sipped the most delicious hot chocolate I’ve tasted for some time.

As well as tins of dark hot chocolate which you can buy to make your own hot chocolate, they also make chocolate bars in a range of different sizes and flavours.

And they sell special Book Boxes, which you can fill with your personal selection of their handmade chocolates. Choose from Salted Caramel, Hazelnut Praline, Double Espresso, Cardamom & Irish Honeycomb and many more!

I ‘may’ have found it very hard to resist buying a box to bring back home. 😉

By the way, Koko was recently on TV. @dermotoleary paid them a visit for his new series, Dermot’s Taste of Ireland, on @itv.

Arriving at @inchydoneylodgeandspa after dark last night, I knew that the hotel was near the coast due to the soothing sound of the waves I could hear from my room.

But it was only on waking, that I realised how incredibly close we were!

And as soon as we’d eaten breakfast, we headed down for a windswept walk on one of the beautiful blustery beaches of the Wild Atlantic Way, East Inchydoney. Afterwards, tea by the fire was even more magical…

Have you heard of the Irish Midlands? That’s where you’ll find @wineport_lodge located on the banks of one of Lough Ree’s three inner lakes.

31 years ago husband and wife team Ray Byrne and Jane English opened a small restaurant there. At first this was part of a sailing centre, but it soon established its own reputation. And as time passed, bedrooms and a spa were added.

This week, I had the pleasure of staying overnight aboard their luxury cruiser, M.V. Full Circle.

After being greeted at reception with a welcoming glass of bubbles, we settled into our new home for the night. And sleeping up to 6 people, there was ample space above and below deck.

You have the best of both worlds being just a stone’s throw from the lodge and its amenities, but also being in your own little serene space afloat.

(By the way, the boat doesn’t move during your stay. So there’s no need to be concerned about taking on skipper responsibilities!)

This is where I’ll be next week! And I can’t wait. I’m off to the Emerald Isle for a few days and I’m hoping the rain pauses for a little while… 🙂

If like me you have issues with your ears when flying (I’ve got narrow ear canals), I highly recommend a visit to The Ear Clinic, which you can find in Wimbledon, Horsley and Grayshott. I went to the Wimbledon clinic yesterday.

I won’t go into detail (DM me if you’d like to know more), but I have their microsuction treatment before flying. And I now wouldn’t fly without it.
